A global logistics and marine operations company aimed to modernize its cargo tracking and communication systems to improve transparency and operational efficiency. The company aimed to provide its customers with real-time visibility into cargo movement across vessels, facilitating smoother coordination among offshore teams, field operators, and internal departments.

Previously, operations were coordinated through manual updates sent via emails and phone calls, leading to delayed responses, fragmented data, and limited visibility. This inefficiency affected customer experience and operational reliability.

Challenges

Modernizing cargo operations for a marine logistics environment required navigating real-world constraints such as architecting the solution for low-connectivity conditions, multi-step workflows, and a-sync communication. The goal was to bring customers, offshore teams, and field operators onto one reliable digital system without disrupting ongoing operations. Coaldev addressed these issues by developing a hybrid architecture that combined real-time online dashboards with offline data storage and automatic synchronization, ensuring data continuity and user access even during unstable network conditions.

Coaldev partnered with the client to design and build VIEWPOINT, a secure, cloud-based operations portal that unifies cargo tracking, workflow automation, and team collaboration into a single interface.

The platform was designed around six core modules:

1. Document Hub

Centralized repository for operational plans, permits, and invoices with version control and access management.

2. Live Weather & Advisories

Integrated weather panels and alert systems embedded within operational workflows.

3. Secure Chat

Role-based, threaded communication channels tied directly to each cargo operation, reducing reliance on external communication tools.

4. Workflow Management

Structured process flow covering RFQ, scheduling, pre-ops checks, live operations, completion, and invoicing.

5. Real-Time Status & Events

Live operational timeline displaying milestones, ETAs, and key hand-offs for both customer and internal visibility.

6. Dashboards & Reports

Dynamic dashboards and reports for executive oversight, offering real-time and historical performance analytics.

Coaldev engineered this ecosystem using cloud-first principles, ensuring scalability and secure data synchronization across web and mobile platforms. A lightweight mobile application equipped with offline functionality allowed field operators to update cargo data seamlessly, which synchronized automatically when connectivity was restored.
